In the year 5750 the Rebbe revealed that we entered a "new time-period." The Rebbe compared this to Friday after midday (the sixth millennium is compared to the sixth day, and on a 24 hour clock starting from the night, the year 750 resembles midday of Friday). In this video we see the Rebbe changing one of the mourning customs of the nine days. The Rebbe explained in later Sichas that being that we are in a special time connected with the coming of Moshiach, we try to weaken the feeling of mourning in things which aren't explicit in Shulchan Aruch.
